Renewables surpass natural gas in US power generation for the first time
In March, renewable energy sources generated more electricity than natural gas in the U.S. for the first time. This milestone is attributed to increased wind and solar capacity, alongside a seasonal drop in electricity demand. Despite this progress, rising demand from sectors like data centers is prolonging the use of fossil fuels, with several coal plants having their retirements delayed.
US administration softens stance on renewables amid energy crisis
The US administration is showing signs of a shift in messaging regarding renewable energy as rising electricity prices and fuel costs contribute to an affordability crisis. In exchange for support on permitting reform, Democrats are pushing for a more favorable approach to green power. The extent of this shift and its effects on solar and wind deployments remain uncertain.
