What is an ISO/RTO?
- An Independent System Operator (ISO) or Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) manages the electric grid and wholesale electricity markets in their region. They ensure reliable power delivery while facilitating competitive energy trading.
What does LMP mean?
- Locational Marginal Price (LMP) is the cost of supplying the next megawatt of electricity at a specific location on the grid. It includes energy cost, transmission congestion, and losses. LMPs are the basis for wholesale electricity pricing.
How often is grid data updated?
- Grid data updates every 5 minutes during operating hours. This includes current load, generation mix, and real-time prices. Some data points may have slight delays depending on the ISO's publication schedule.
