California Resources Corporation has completed the first CO₂ injection at its Carbon TerraVault I project in Kern County, marking California's first operational carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative. The project can store up to 1.46 million metric tons of CO₂ annually, contributing to the state's carbon neutrality goals. CRC has also submitted eight additional reservoirs for EPA Class VI permitting, representing a total potential storage capacity of 352 million metric tons.
